Parent Contracts In Youth Football

Getting parents "On Board" is key when you are coaching youth football and want to keep your sanity.

Some Parents Don't "Get" Youth Football

Many parents just don't understand what is acceptable and unacceptable fan behavior. Remember your program will always be judged by the aggregated actions of your coaches, players AND parents. If you choose to ignore managing this very important group your season can end up being a disaster. It's never fun having to police your parents during a game or get an angry call from the league commissioner because a parent was acting foolishly. Worse yet, your players often use the actions of others as cues for their own behavior. If you have poorly acting parents, the players follow.

Limits

Most people respond fairly well if they are given limits at the outset and told they can accept the limits and participate or ignore the limits and play elsewhere. What doesn't work and isn't very fair is if the limits are not defined or are given out piecemeal and arbitrarily. That's why we came up with our Parent or Spectator Contract that is required in order that anyone play in our program. It clearly states what is and is not acceptable behavior and what the penalties for choosing not to follow it is. I've found it is much more effective to be proactive about this issue and address it head on day 1. On page 58 of my book "Winning Youth Football a Step by Step Plan" is my Parent speech I give out word for word before every season. I've never had a player on one of my teams ejected or had a single significant parent issue by using this approach.

Below is the Contract:

Screaming Eagles Spectator Contract

The Screaming Eagle Program has a history of being the best, in providing a positive
Sportsmanship Environment for our players. Our program is bigger than any one player,
coach or spectator.

1) Encourage members of both teams.

2) Keep all comments positive.

3) Only players and coaches allowed on field, no exceptions.

4) Leave the coaching to the coaches

5) Criticizing the officials, coaches and opponents will not be tolerated at all. The
same goes for abusive language or cursing. This is youth sports, everyone makes
mistakes, referees do too.

6) You are responsible for all family members and friends attending the games to
watch your child.

7) No open alcoholic beverages on fields or parking areas.

8) Help make this a positive and fun experience for all.

9) Report any violations to head coach or board member, get involved.

10) Playing Time is not to be discussed with any coach unless
the player plays less than the minimum and then only by phone at least 2 hours after the game has concluded.

Enforcement:

1) Individuals will be given one warning for inappropriate activity.

2) Individuals that continue; will be asked to leave the fields and the player will be
removed from the game until the spectator has left.

3) Other sanctions as deemed necessary by the president or board may be enforced,
including permanent ban.

4) All decisions are final, there will be no hearing or appeals.

France National Football Team - A Little History

France made their entry into the international field of Football in 1903. The team, associated with the French Football Federation, goes under the nickname "Les Bleus" (The Blues) in France. Today, France's football team offers a high level of competition in matches - but believe it or not, the team used to be very modest, one that some would consider an "easy game". Their first international match was versus Belgium, and was a tie game. In 1930, France's national team was one of the four initial teams from Europe that participated in the inaugural World Cup. Nonetheless, at that time, France's team was still looked down upon as an easy defeat. In the mid 1950's, France did see some mild success, for once not being at the bottom of the standings.

Their first true experience at being a huge success came at the end of 1984. From December of 1984 to April of 1985, France was ranked number one in the Elo ranking categorization of football teams. This success was held out fairly well, and met another high point from May of 2001 to May of 2002, when the team from France sustained a FIFA ranking of number one; today, this number one FIFA ranking means more worldwide, as FIFA is an internationally recognizable organization.

Perhaps most memorable for many people is France's win of the FIFA World Cup in 1998. Thirty two different teams, from five different confederations, competed through 64 matches. France won nearly every match that they competed in, and ended up taking the championship upon beating Brazil 0 to 3. Other awards given to the French football team during the 1998 FIFA World Cup include "Most Entertaining Team", and the "FIFA Fair Play" Trophy. The Stadium that the French Football team usually plays at is the "Stade de France", which was built in 1995 and opened during 1998. The construction of the stadium cost over 285 Million Euros. In fact, the stadium was built for the purpose of the 1998 FIFA world cup - it's both ironic and fitting that France would win the world cup at their own stadium the year that it opened. After the World Cup, the Stade de France has continuously been used for various football events, although for the majority of the year, the stadium is empty. The majority of events that France's team participates in at the Stade de France are won by the French team, partially owing to the home team advantage of having more frequent access to that field, as well as higher morale and support from the crowd.

France's team may still not be the most reputable team around, but from their humble beginnings they were able to rise into a team that is recognizable in many places around the world, and were even able to claim the glorious title of World Champions.

Browns at Bengals - 2 Teams in Search of Redemption

The Bears travel to Cincinnati in hope of getting their first quality road win of the season. The Bengals and the Bears both had their winning streaks come to an end, but only one team will redeem itself from last week.

Bears on Offense
Chicago needs to set the tone early in Cincy, and by Chicago, I mean Jay Cutler. Cutler has carried the offense on his back, and for a QB with few playmakers to work with, he's clearly playing well enough for a contract extension. The Bears average only 89.8 rushing yards a game no thanks to Matt Forte, who, with just 1 touchdown on 3.4 yards a carry, has made fumbling his "forte", coughing up the ball 3 times in 5 games. The Bears need Forte to step up against a much-improved Cincy run D. If he can make the Bengals account for him, it will take pressure off Cutler and free up lanes for the Bears' passing attack. Cutler and co. need to be aggressive and go after the Bengals' secondary, who gave up nearly 400 passing yards last week and made Texan QB Matt Schaub look like Dan Marino. The Bears' receiving corps (which lacks a dominant threat) has to find ways to get open and Cutler should deliver. Cincy's top pass rusher- DE Antwan Odom- went down last week with a torn Achilles. Odom's absence may limit the Bengals' ability to rattle Cutler, who has had 7 picks in 3 away games this season.

Bengals on Offense
Despite getting manhandled at home by the Texans last week, the Bengals are looking good these days. Carson Palmer is taking charge of an offense full of weapons, starring future H.O.F.er Chad Ochocinco. Ocho is having a solid year; somehow, he's been able to incorporate his shenanigans into a routine and still be an impact player. This week, Ocho called out Chicago CB Charles Tillman on Twitter, suggesting that Tillman can't guard him. Well you know what, Ocho's probably right about that. Palmer needs to feed his bigheaded receiver the ball and look for Andre Caldwell, who has become a good 2nd option. Cedric Benson is putting up career numbers- he's 3rd in rushing with 531 yards. Cincy needs to give Benson at least 25 touches to get maximum mileage out of him. And I'd be careless not to mention the added fuel driving Benson this week- he's facing the team that released him just last year, a team he claims spread dirt about him after his release. Even though Benson maintains that Sunday's game is not about revenge, his play on the field might tell you otherwise. One group that will definitely feel Benson's wrath is Chicago's Urlacher-less LBs, who just lost Pisa Tinoisamoa for the season.

Cutler and the Bears will put up a fight despite injuries and lack of road success. But Chicago doesn't have an answer for the Bengal playmakers, who will be the difference in the game. Look for Cincy to patch up their D and Palmer and the boys to get back to playing winning football.

College Football - How to Predict When Teams Are Overrated and Due for an Unexpected Loss

When you understand how to measure the substance of a college football team, you can often predict an unexpected loss. It is more difficult to predict exactly when it will happen. When Stanford upset Southern California 24-23 last Saturday (10-6-07) many people were surprised. I was not.

No. 2-ranked USC was a perfect 4-0 coming into the game and had enjoyed 5 straight seasons of national top-4 finishes, BCS bowl appearances and Pac 10 Conference titles. Stanford was a 6-touchdown underdog, had lost 41-3 at home to Arizona State a week earlier, had lost to USC 42-0 a year ago, and finished last year with a lousy 1-11 record.

So what happened? Study these three sets of figures to identify some clues. The first is the prior week's AP Top 25 Poll, the second is Sagarin's mathematical ratings of a team's performance strength against shared opponents, and the third is Sagarin's mathematical ratings of a team's schedule strength.

The AP Poll is made up of 65 media types who follow and report on college football teams. Sagarin is Jeff Sagarin, who produces the gold standard among rating services. Sagarin's ratings represent the average schedule difficulty faced by each team, taking into account the rating of the opponent and the location of the game.

AP Top 25 Poll - Sagarin Rating - Schedule Rank

1) LSU 1) LSU 1) Washington

2) Southern California 2) Southern California 2) Notre Dame

3) California 3) Ohio State 3) Colorado State

4) Ohio State 4) Oklahoma 4) Stanford

5) Wisconsin 5) California 5) Marshall

6) South Florida 6) South Florida 6) Tennessee

7) Boston College 7) West Virginia 7) Mississippi

8) Kentucky 8) Arizona State 8) North Carolina

9) Florida 9) Florida 9) Colorado

10) Oklahoma 10) Auburn 10) AA Sam Houston

11) South Carolina 11) Oregon 11) Auburn

12) Georgia 12) UCLA 12) Akron

13) West Virginia 13) Georgia 13) Duke

14) Oregon 14) Cincinnati 14) East Carolina

15) Virginia Tech 15) Boston College 15) LA-Monroe

16) Hawaii 16) Kentucky 16) Florida International

17) Missouri 17) South Carolina 17) Florida State

18) Arizona State 18) Missouri 18) Syracuse

19) Texas 19) Kansas State 19) UCLA

20) Cincinnati 20) Connecticut 20) Brigham Young

21) Rutgers 21) Florida State 21) Oregon

22) Clemson 22) Boise State 22) San Diego State

23) Purdue 23) Purdue 23) Washington State

24) Kansas State 24) Wisconsin 24) Wake Forest

25) Nebraska 25) Texas 25) Miami (Ohio)

How could Stanford upset USC? Well, for one thing, although USC has far more talent, its talent did not show up for the game. USC's talent was "at" the game but not "in" the game.

USC was 4-0 and ranked No. 2 going into the game and Stanford was 1-3 and ranked No. 83, yet Stanford had played the 4th toughest schedule in the country before the Cardinal arrived at USC as the visiting team. USC had played the 38th toughest schedule.

You decide if this was a factor or not. I say it was a factor. Certainly, USC did not think Stanford was that tough of an opponent; the Trojans paid a big price by not being prepared. Here is another example. I have said for weeks that Wisconsin was overrated. The Badgers were 5-0 and ranked No. 5 going into Illinois while the Illini were unranked, but upset Wisconsin 31-26.

Wisconsin may have been ranked No. 5 but its Sagarin rating was No. 24 and the Badgers had played the 90th toughest schedule. Sagarin's rating for Illinois was No. 40, but the Illini had played the 39th toughest schedule.

Still not convinced? Kentucky was 5-0 and ranked No. 8 going into South Carolina and lost to the Gamecocks 38-23.

Kentucky had a Sagarin rating of No. 16 and had played the 92nd toughest schedule. South Carolina was 4-1 and ranked No. 11, had a Sagarin rating of No. 17 and had played the 47th toughest schedule.

In a clash of unbeatens, Purdue was 5-0, ranked No. 23 and hosted the Ohio State Buckeyes who beat them 23-7. Sagarin's rating for Purdue was also No. 23 and the Boilermakers had played the 124th toughest schedule. There is only 119 Division 1-A schools.

Ohio State was also 5-0 and ranked No. 4 with a Sagarin rating of No. 3 and had played the 60th toughest schedule.

Some fans and pundits put no credence in Sagarin. I put a lot of credence in the Sagarin's team ratings and schedule rank, and now you know why. I can with some accuracy predict when a team is overrated and due for an unexpected loss.

Coaching Youth Football - Offensive Line

The offensive lineman is the unsung hero of any good offense. He is not always recognized as the hero of the game. But without him the backs can't run anywhere. NO line, NO scoring, NO winning. This tells me the better the offensive line the better the team. The offensive line is a team within a team. They have to play as a unit from left end to right end. They can and should help each other. They MUST work together.

The offensive lineman must have the determination and the mental discipline to practice different blocking assignments constantly. His blocks must be correct on every play and that can only be achieved through working hard everyday at practice. There are no shortcuts in this respect. You must practice hard if you want to get better.

Blocking is the key to any offensive game. Good offensive line play is based on a good stance, an explosive start, body control, correct hitting position on contact , delivery of a forceful block and driving your legs. The line must come off the ball as one. Explode with the snap, staying low, make contact, bring forearms and shoulders up and into his man, keeping his legs under himself and moving, driving his man out.

Remember he doesn't have to move the defensive man too far to open up the hole. You might have to move him left or right and you always want to move him back. To do this keep your body square and use short choppy steps.

Sleeper BCS College Football Teams

Predicting a sleeper team is always dicey. You know some of the teams have the potential but you do not know enough. Likewise, there are some teams that look promising this year and here are the reasons why:

Oklahoma State Cowboys - Watching the Cowboys now might remind you of the position Texas Tech was in last year. Not only does Oklahoma have the experience but they also have a massive offense lineup this season, which might prove to be unstoppable. All they have to do now is defeat Georgia in Stillwater to have a 7-0 on October 31st when they will host Texas. Only Bedlam in Oklahoma remains beyond that - the season finale.

Georgia Bulldog - People might not think much of them at the moment but they do have the potential in the BCS race. Even though they do not have last season's great quarterback and running back, they might make a come back this year.

They have a very strong defense this year and everyone's overlooking their overall experience. They are almost veterans of the SEC by now. Also, Mark Richt seems to do well when he doesn't expect much. There are two important games for them this season - one vs. Florida and one vs. Oklahoma State. Once they manage to win at least one and defeat Georgia Tech during the final game, they will have a pretty good chance of making it to the bowl season with a 10-2 or 11-1 mark.

Illinois Illini - Whilst people are split between Ohio State and Penn State in the Big Ten Country, the Illini might actually be the best team there. They are going to The Horseshoe on the 26th of September and following that they will play against Penn State and Michigan State. If the Illini can keep the defeat to just one, they might have an 11-1 or 10-2 year in the making. The Illini also have an advantage here - both Penn State and Ohio are starting out with new starters and green hands in the important positions.

Mississippi Rebels - The Rebels aren't being ignored all that much but they are not getting the attention that some of the highlights are getting. That is too bad because they are likely to be quite a force this season. They have brought quarterback Jean Snead beck, who is amongst the 16 starters who are coming back to the team. At least half of these 16 players are three-year starters. With their schedule looking good, they are very likely to play Florida in the SEC title game. They have already beaten Florida last year and with one upset like the one in 2007 - they could be playing for the BCS Title.

However, they might be pushed to the BCS Berth of the Big 12's if they cannot get past OU or UT because those two teams have a chance of playing the National Title game.

So that way, some of the underdog (and the not-so underdog) teams might come out and surprise you. So you better watch everything very closely as always.

Kansas Jayhawks College Football Team History and News

The Kansas Jayhawks started their football tradition in 1890 in Lawrence, Kansas. They represent the University of Kansas in the North Division of the Big 12 and is classified in the NCAA's Division I. The home stadium is the University of Kansas Memorial Stadium that has a capacity of 50,071. It is the first stadium built on an college campus west of the Mississippi River. Its official mascots are Big Jay and Baby Jay. Two time All American awardee Gale Sayers is a alumni of the football team. Other great players were John Riggins, John Hadl, Mike McCormack and Nolan Cromwell among others. The current head coach is Mark Mangino, who led them to a 2-10 record in the 2002 season.

They soon after played in three more bowl games during the last five years. The major rivals of the Jawhawks are the Kansas State Wildcats and the Missouri Tigers. The so-called :"Border War" was played between Kansas Jayhawks and the Missouri Tigers. It started in 1891 and was considered to be the longest uninterrupted rivalry in college football west of Mississippi until 2007 when they retired the current drum.. It was later renamed "Border Showdown". Winner of the Border Showdown was given the Indian War Drum, which is the award whenever the two has a game. The other rival, the Kansas State Wildcats, fight with the Jayhawks for the Governor's Cup. The game between these two teams is called the Sunflower Showdown.

Championships and Important Moments:

The Jayhawks played 11 bowl games with a 24-21 win in the 2007 Orange Bowl. They had eight conference championships in 1892, 1893, 1895, 1908, 1930, 1946, 1947 and 1968. In 2007, they won the divisional championship, which they lost however in a tie-breaker. Kansas, having the all-time record for the most number of ties in the NCAA Division I-A, which is 57, gave way to the ruling that allows for a tie-breaker in October 6, 1990. The teams all-time record is 559-540-58 (.508)

Quarterbacks in the current Roster:

-- Tyler Lawrence -Kale Pick - Todd Reesing

Kansas Jayhawks Recent News:

The Jayhawks was defeated 35-7 by Texas Tech in their November 15 game at the Kivisto field at Memorial Stadium. With the loss, Kansas fell to 6-5 on the season and 3-4 in the Big 12. It will be a week before they play again, this time with border Showdown rival Missouri Tigers at Arrowhead Stadium. Fox Sports Network will televise the game on November 29 at 11:30 a.m. As always, fans need not watch the games on the couch. The Kansas Athletics Ticket Office is located at the south end of the Booth Family Hall of Athletics. On a lighter note, Jayhawk linebacker Mike Rivera was announced one of the 15 finalist for the 2008 Wuerffel Trophy. He was earlier named semifinalist for the Draddy Award and a nominee for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. Another good news for Kansas, wide receiver Kerry Meier was named on of the ten finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, which is given every year to the country's top wide receiver.

Building Cohesiveness and Chemistry in Your Youth Football Team

Building Chemistry When Coaching Youth Football

The best youth football coaches are not only very good X and O guys and great teachers, they are outstanding at bringing their teams together. One of the best I've seen at doing that is my friend Tony Holland from Baltimore. Tony has been using our system for the last 3 years and has had some amazing results. He has some very unique techniques he uses to bring his teams together. Tony is a voracious learner and has taken some concepts he has used so successfully in his business and applied it to his youth football team to make it better and improve the experience for his kids.

Laying the Foundation of Your Youth Football Team

Like us, Tony divides his team into multiple groups of 5-6 players. We do the same and assign a coach to each group and allow the group to name their little "team". By organizing your team in this way the kids feel more connected. When you are running circuit type drills and take a break, it is much easier calling out each group by name and sending that group to the next station. The kids often take pride in their little group. We've found when doing competitive drills or the fun team building drills from the group, the kids have more fun and effort greater when there is competition between groups. By keeping kids in those smaller groups, the kids connect quicker and deeper which in turn improves their fun and commitment levels.

Laying The Solid Rock Foundation

Tony takes this a step further. Before the season, Tony goes to Walmart and buys a bunch of small smooth round rocks. His team is the Ravens, so Tony spray paints each rock purple and puts Ravens stickers on each rock. After each practice the coach of each of the groups awards a rock to one player in his group who has listened the best and efforted the hardest. Each coach hands out the rock to his group winner before the entire team at the end of each practice. Tony said his kids go nuts over getting these little rocks. He calls the effort the kids put during practice as the foundation (rock) of success for his team. The foundation is built with the help of these strong little rocks that cost Tony less than .25 each.

Lifetime Lessons From Youth Football

These simple and inexpensive rocks are treasured by Tony's players. One player in fact was moving and mentioned to Tony he had put his treasured rocks in a box and made sure he got them to his new house. It was as if these rocks were his most treasured possession. He told Tony "I'm keeping my rocks forever"m which brought a huge and knowing smile to the lips of my buddy Tony. The teams parents even bought in after some initial skepticism and now are all for it after seeing the results.

Just think about this kid, 40 years from now in 2048, this same kid is moving again. He is now 49 years old and loading his belongings into the moving truck. he takes a look at that last small box from the attic. In that box are a few old scrapbooks, some old kids trophies and his little box of treasured rocks from Tony Holland, he got back in 2008. 40 years from now that player will still remember Tony and his lessons on effort, commitment and team work. How many other people are going to remember you 40 years from now? Think about that.

If you are coaching youth football, my good friend Tony is definitely one of the guys you want to emulate if you want those kind of permanent lessons ingrained into your players.

Elementary Football Team Routines

Basics to football hand offs

Handoff skills can secure yardage on the field and increase your overall success. Let's look at a simple hand off between a quarterback and a running back to point out the fundamentals of this skill. The running back starts the hand off running towards the quarterback with his arms open creating a pocket for the quarterback to slide the football right into the running back's chest. Once the quarterback has placed the ball in the pocket, or opening, the running back immediately clamps down on the ball protecting it and holding on to it. As the running back leaves from the handoff he needs to stay low to react quickly and again to protect the ball.

Catching the ball low

Good receivers and even running backs know how to make the great plays. This means that quarterbacks, running backs, receivers, etc have gone through the motions several times and know how to react to situations on the field. One situation that happens a lot in a game is catching the low passes. Here are some secrets to making this catch. First keep the pinkies together down low to make a shovel. This ensures that the ball will not slip through your fingers. Locking your pinkies prevents the football from falling through your hands. Second, bend your knees and get low. Remember, the cardinal rule of catching is to use your hands and not your body. Always watch the ball through from the first time you see it in the air until it is in a secure ball carrying position. And always see the ball through, meaning that you are watching it into the tuck.

Water on and off the field

Dehydration should never appear on the football field if both the players and coaches have good habits. Every player should have a water bottle close so that they can take quick water breaks or at least a swallow here and there. Water should never be used as a motivational or reward type basis. These safe practices will help keep players energized and healthy.

Building your muscles and endurance through Weightlifting

No practice regime would be complete without lifting weights. The benefits of lifting weights are found in added strength, but more importantly it will increase your maximum power. Maximum power differs in importance to strength due to the fact that it is exertion during play and not just muscle mass. It is the quickness and exertion that will enable a football player to accomplish their plays with skill on the field. As you continue in your weightlifting program, we highly recommend that you get a personal coach to push you in your goals, teach you proper techniques, and ensure that you are doing the right work for your position.

How to Pick a Fantasy Football Team

When learning how to pick a fantasy football team you need to pay extra attention to what has gone on for the specific team in the offseason. Here are some questions to ask yourself about the team you are going to choose:

What offseason trades have happened to benefit the team?

Did your team have a good NFL draft?

Who is injured on your fantasy football team?

These 3 questions are vital in determining and choosing your next NFL fantasy football team. If you pick a team where they had no injuries and great offseason acquisitions you can expect to see your fantasy football rankings shoot through the roof. You can get the latest sporting news fantasy football updates right to your phone even, so there is no excuse not to be up-to-date when making your NFL fantasy football predictions. There are many players stocks rising and many players stocks falling dramatically. Sometimes you can catch a players stock falling almost near the bottom, draft them, and earn a huge return on a draft pick that low. These are your money maker picks right here and make up the difference between a winning fantasy football player and a losing fantasy football player. Knowing all your fantasy football player ratings will help you greatly on draft day. You can surprise all your friends by becoming the greatest fantasy football player to ever play the game if you do your homework and play your cards right. There are some steals out there on no name players ready to shine this year in the NFL. Your fantasy football draft has never been so better when you find standout players for cheap.

If you want to make some money this year on the NFL season, placing an NFL football bet will be your best bet by far. Take it from me; I have been making a stable income betting on sports for years! Last year I made a total of $120,000 betting on ALL sports last year. Out of that 120K I made last year, around 80k of it was JUST on FOOTBALL bets. The type of football bet depends on the NFL lines and who is playing who. The majority of the times if you can find a steal where the lines are great for a home team, take them.

A football bet tip you will always remember is to find a sports handicapper that spends 8+ hours a day researching each and every pick to give you guaranteed winners. You can find a professional handicapper for cheap, 50 dollars a month or less. Not only will you ONLY pay 50 dollars a month or less, if you do not profit for the month you are FULLY refunded. There are definitely companies out there that offer services like this, you just have to do your research and find one. Once you find one you will be able to quit your day job, buy a new house, a new car, and live a comfortable life just like I have been doing for years. I wish you the best of luck!

The Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys are arguably the most recognizable football team in the NFL. They have been in the National Football League since 1960 and have been winning ever since. Known as America's Team the Cowboys have sold out their how and away games an NFL record 160 straight games.

The Cowboys played their home games at Texas Stadium in Arlington since 1971, but beginning in 2009 the team will play in the brand new, state of the art, Dallas Cowboys New Stadium. The New Stadium, as it is referred to, has a seating capacity of eighty-thousand and it can be re-configured to hold up to one-hundred thousand fans as needed. The stadium cost more than one billion dollars. The city of Dallas, the NFL, and owner Jerry Jones are all contributing to the funding of the stadium.

The Cowboys began their foundation of excellence in 1971 when they defeated the Miami Dolphins by a score of 24-3 which brought the first of five NFL championship trophies to Dallas. They won again in 1977, 1992, 1993, and 1995. The expectation of excellence that exists in Dallas was formed by these championship teams.

The Cowboys longtime rivals are the Washington Redskins. In fact the owner of the Redskins, George Marshall, tried to block the Cowboys from joining the NFL in 1960. Marshall's Redskins were extremely popular in Texas and he didn't want to see that diminish by having a new team Texas. The would be owners of the Cowboys bought the rights to the Redskins fight song and informed Marshall he could no longer play it at Redskins games unless he relented. He did and the Cowboys franchise was born. The rivalry was born in 1960, but is still very intense to this day.

The five NFL championships that the Cowboys won were certainly part of what gave them their national appeal, but that is not the only reason that they have become America's Team. They have won forty-one games on Monday Night Football which is more than any other franchise and has given them more national exposure than many other teams.

Of course all the exposure in the world is not going to catapult a team to the level of appeal the Cowboys have unless the team has the players people want to root for, and the Cowboys have always had those players. From Roger Staubauch to Troy Aikman, to Tony Romo the Cowboys have always had the kind of charismatic quarterback that is so important to creating national appeal for a team.

The current fans of the Cowboys have plenty to cheer about as well. Owner Jerry Jones, who bought the Cowboys in 1989 for $150 million dollars, is consistently willing to do whatever it takes help the Cowboys win. There is no player he won't sign, and seemingly no amount of money he won't spend to improve his Cowboys. Outsiders sometimes see Jerry Jones as being intrusive, but he is the steward of a one-billion dollar NFL team so if he chooses to be more hands on than some other owners then that it is certainly his right to do so.

The Cowboys are valued at more than $1.6 billion dollars which makes them the most valuable sports franchise in the United States. They also generate about $270 million dollars in revenue per season, which means they will be able to be competitive in the NFL for decades to come.

Custom Jerseys - A New Era in Sports Equipment

Football Jerseys have undergone a complete change in its image, appearance and usage patterns. In the yesteryear sports jersey was just a part of the official sports equipment, nothing more nothing less. The jerseys meant for football players had long sleeves, were plain and their material was heavier than today's National football league jersey. Their simplicity and plainness has been a reason for many comments. Reason for their plainness was that jersey was the team gear with no frills or designing. According to legendary football coach Darryl Royal, they were "working clothes".

The growing popularity of National Football League (NFL) and advent of custom jerseys in the football teams has transformed the team gear. Team gear including the jersey has become trendier. Jersey has transcended its "working clothes" impression. Custom jerseys for today's NFL football players have shorter sleeves, vibrant colors and attractive patterns. The football teams now pay considerable attention towards design and appearance of their team gear.

Beginning in 2010, the visiting team jersey shall meet the some criteria. The yoke of the jersey (from the neckline to the seam at mid-chest inclusive of theshoulders) and the body of the jersey (the area below the yoke) shall be white and shall contain only the listed allowable adornments and accessory patterns: stripes, a maximum of 1 inch in width, may be placed on the sleeves; a border, a maximum of 1 inch in width may be placed around the collar and cuffs; a sideseam (insert from the underarms to the top of the pants), a maximum of 4 inches in width may be utilized.

Also beginning in 2010, the home team jersey shall meet the following criteria: the yoke of the jersey and the body of the jersey may not include white except as:the jersey number, a decorative stripe, a border on the collar or cuff, a sideseasm.

Wearing replica jerseys for NFL football matches to support their team has not been a new phenomenon for the football fans. However, now the jersey has taken a step ahead and you will find many people wearing NFL authentic jerseys even out of the football arenas. Wearing national football league team-jersey of their favorite football team or player has become a personal style statement of the younger generation. This transformation is the reason for increasing demand of sports equipment in general and jersey in particular.

Moreover, the extreme popularity of football as sport in America has further popularized the jersey. There are too many avenues for football fans; some of them are NFL Football, College Football, NCAA Football and very popular Monday Night Football. These events have added to the growing demand for football jerseys and team gear. Many people have a passion for collecting authentic football jerseys (game worn) and replica jerseys of NFL stars.

USC Trojans 2008 College Football Team Preview

USC finished the 2007 campaign with an 11-2 record capped off by a convincing 49-17 win over Illinois in the Rose Bowl. Southern Cal ranked second in the nation in scoring defense, as they allowed just 19 points per game. They also ranked second nationally in total defense, as they allowed only 273.2 yards per game. Two October losses (home against Stanford and at Oregon) ruined their bid for a perfect season and national championship.

This season, the quarterbacking duties will be handled by junior Mark Sanchez. Sanchez won the job in spring over Arkansas transfer Mitch Mustain. Sanchez has started just three games coming into this season. The former National Prep Player of the Year threw seven touchdown passes and five interceptions in limited duty last season.

USC possesses a deep corps of talented running backs, including Stafon Johnson, experienced junior C.J. Gable and super sophomore Joe McKnight. Johnson ran for 673 yards on just 98 carries last season for a 6.9-yard average. He also tallied five touchdowns. Fullback Stanley Havili, a solid receiver and blocker, should also help the USC rushing attack.

Vidal Hazleton and Patrick Turner return as the starting wide receivers. This unit needs to improve from last season's performance. They should get help from Damian Williams, another Arkansas transfer, and Ronald Johnson. All-America tight end Fred Davis has gone to the NFL, leaving junior Anthony McCoy to try to fill the huge void left by Davis' departure.

Only one starter returns from last year's offensive line and that is left guard Jeff Byers. The good news is many of the new starters in this group saw extensive playing time last season due to injuries to last year's starters. Center Kristofer O'Dowd played extremely well last season filling in for the injured Matt Spanos. Charles Brown, Zack Heberer and Butch Lewis also received plenty of playing time due to starters' injuries.

Head coach Pete Carroll's specialty is defense. I mentioned some of USC's 2007 defensive accomplishments earlier. This year's group has speed and athleticism at every level and should also put up some impressive numbers.

All-America candidate Rey Maualuga returns at middle linebacker and former Rose Bowl MVP Brian Cushing returns at strong-side linebacker. Kaluka Maiava should be the new starter at weak-side linebacker for a unit that should be among the best in the country.

It gets even better. Coach Carroll believes this year's secondary could be the best he has ever coached. It all starts with 6'4" 225-pound free safety Taylor Mays. Strong safety Kevin Ellison, an All-PAC 10 pick last season, combines with Mays to form what might be the best safety tandem in the nation.

The biggest loss for this defense is the departure of PAC-10 Defensive Player of the Year Sedrick Ellis. Ellis, a nose tackle last season, is off to the NFL. Christian Tupou and Averell Spicer have some big shoes to fill in trying to replace Ellis. The rest of the defensive line consists of Fili Moala at the other tackle spot and freshman All-American Everson Griffin and Kyle Moore at the ends.

Both kickers, placekicker David Buehler and punter Greg Woidneck, return after solid 2007 campaigns. Southern Cal should get excellent kick returns from the trio of McKnight, Gable and Ronald Johnson.

In 2008, the Trojans will be trying to win 11 games and make it to a BCS bowl game for the seventh straight season. QB Sanchez will have a lot to do with whether or not USC achieves that goal. USC does have an easier schedule than they had last season. Most of the tough games are at home, including Ohio State, Oregon and Arizona State. I expect USC to once again challenge for a spot in the BCS National Championship Game.
