The Best Team in the NFL
Of course, recognizing a football team as the best in the league is purely based on opinion. Your bias definitely has a lot to do with where you come from. Born and raised in Green Bay, Wisconsin, I happen to be a full-blown, paint your face green and wear a cheese head, die hard, crazy Green Bay Packer fan. I have been watching the green and gold since diaper status. But just because I grew up cheering for this Midwest team doesn't mean that I'm a poser.
The Green Bay Packers are recognized by many as the greatest football team in the NFL. You will find fans no matter which state you are in, and that's an amazing thing. It's no wonder why these guys have such loyal fans, they are on a four game winning streak in this 2009 season, and they are making their way to the NFL playoffs with the number one defensive team and number sixth offensive line in the entire league. For all of you fans constantly searching for more facts to run your mouth with, read on for some very interesting, perhaps unknown facts about the greatest team in the NFL, the Green Bay Packers.
1. The "Green Bay Packers" just so happen to be the longest-standing team name in the history of the NFL.
2. Other team nicknames of the past are "Indian Packers" or "Indians" (1919), "Acme Packers" (1921), "Blues" (1922), "Big Bay Blues" (1920's), "Bays", (1918-1940), and currently "The Pack," and "The Green and Gold."
3. Every single Packer game has been sold out since all the way back in 1960.
4. The average waiting period to get your hands on Green Bay Packer tickets at Lambeau Field is approximately 35 years. (There are more people on the waiting list than seats in the stadium).
5. Subsequently, the Packers have one of the largest fan bases in the NFL, probably the largest but Steelers fans will argue.
6. Each year the Green Bay Packers play an intra-squad scrimmage at Lambeau Field called "Family Night."
7. The Packer foundation has put limitations on the use of similar logo looks as their "G" mark is trademarked though it's been altered several times since 1961.
8. The Packers have played their home games at the famous Lambeau Field since 1957 and it is the longest continuously used stadium in the league's history.
9. When Lambeau Field was built (after the City Stadium became too small), it became the first stadium that was built exclusively for an NFL team.
10. The Green Bay Packers remain one of the last "small town teams" and they are the only non-profit, community owned major league sports team in the US to this day.
It would be great if this amazing team came out with an official NFL, Packer car. Why not hey? It could be a BMW only not with the BMW Emblem but with the infamous "G." It may seem like a stretch but perhaps the team's superstars could sport around in them. Or maybe during the Macy's holiday parades or Green Bay's Packer party parade, who knows?! As the greatest team in the NFL, these guys can pull off plenty of wild stunts. I mean, the cheese head was supposed to offend us for heaven's safe. But what did we do? We embraced it!
The Reverse - Not a Miracle Football Play For Most Youth Football Teams
Miracle Football Plays- The Reverse is No Magic Bullet
Most of us think of reverse plays as ones where the flow moves to the outside in one direction then a handoff occurs to a wing, slot or end going in the opposite direction of the initial flow. These long developing reverse or end-around plays work well against poorly disciplined youth football teams. At the very youngest of ages like 6-7 where most of the teams and players are undisciplined, they often work against everyone. But the rule of thumb is the better coached the team you are playing is, the less likely the reverse will work. If your opponent has blazing speed and your team is slow, there is little chance that the reverse will be anything but a negative yardage play, as the defense has the speed to overcome an initial misstep.
In the last 6 seasons the teams that have played us and run reverse plays have had just one go for more than 10 yards and none went for touchdowns. I would guess 80% of the reverse plays run against my defense go for negative yardage. Our defense is designed to shut down sweeps and reverses and we only put our most patient and disciplined players at defensive end and of course we fit and freeze rep the heck out of reverses and bootlegs.
Before you call a reverse play in youth football, you must determine if the team you are playing is disciplined or not, if they are, the reverse is a terrible play call. You have to scout the defensive end and corner on the backside of your lead sweep plays to determine that. Why anyone would have bothered trying to run a reverse against us is beyond me, because if they had been watching those keys, they would have seen the play had no chance.
In Youth Football many of these reverse type plays are also run naked, they have no lead blockers and rely on all 11 defenders being fooled on the play in order for it to work. When just one player is not fooled, the play goes for negative yardage and if your ballcarrier fumbles in space behind the line of scrimmage there is the chance for a big play by the defense. The reverse plays in our playbook are very quick hitters, they are run very close to the line of scrimmage and have 3 lead blockers. We often average over 15 yards per carry with this play and rarely have negative yardage plays.
In order for this play to consistently work for us, we only have to fool 3-4 defenders as we pull linemen and have a lead running back blocking to gain numbers advantages at the point of attack. The flow looks like a sweep to the opposite side, the playside looks like a power play with 3 lead blockers. Back when I played youth football 100 years ago, we ran a wing reverse that we even trap blocked, it was a backbreaker. A trap scheme for reverses works well, but the worst designed and performing reverse plays are naked ones.
Many youth football coaches go to the reverse too early. The complementary play has to be set up and run a bunch to make sure the flow is going away from the reverse. In one memorable game a Select team ran the reverse 7 times against us. The first one was run on just the 3rd snap of the game, for negative yardage. Of the other 6, only one went for positive yardage and even that one went for a very small gain. My guess is this very successful youth football team was used to this play working and rather than checking their keys, they just figured it would work against any defense.
Another reason many reverse football plays go for negative yardage is the depth of the play from the handoff of the running back to the ballcarrier is often 5-6-7-8 yards deep and most use an outside handoff. When the reverse back has to run at an angle that is behind the player he is receiving the handoff from, he naturally has to bow deep to get the handoff and continues along that path deeper into the backfield before he can turn the play up. The deeper he gets, the more chance you have of a big negative yardage play. In Youth Football, we prefer an inside handoff on reverse plays to get the runner moving towards the line of scrimmage and keeping him shallow. This lowers the risk of the play and gets the runner upfield much quicker.
In Youth Football the reverse can be a very dangerous play for the defense, but when run incorrectly, too often, too deep, or naked, it can be a very dangerous play for the offense as well.

Great NFL Fantasy Football Action - How to Pick Your Team
So you're now the manager of your own football team in the National Football League. You are the owner and the manager at the same time so you have twice the responsibility to maintain a winning or at least a competitive team. Even if all of this is just NFL Fantasy Football, the thrill, excitement and the satisfaction is equally the same as that of the big league. And all good team managers know what is the most important: having the best players to start with.
While it is not the end of the world if your NFL Fantasy Football team ends up with not that great a lineup. You will never know what can happen in a season. All teams can be plagued by injuries, close calls or simply have a less than lucky season. The point is, it is not impossible for your team to have a great season even if you start with less impressive players for your NFL Fantasy Football team.
How To Pick Your Team
There are a lot of things that you should consider when you're picking for players in your NFL Fantasy Football team. Research is the key term here and you have to understand what your team and players have gone through in the previous season. You will have to know your team played well the last time, if they were winning, then by how much? Who were the key players in your team and who were the ones that stepped up their game. Stats are all that important in creating the best NFL Fantasy Football team.
Do not just focus on the major players. You must also take into consideration players that fared well last season. A good team manager always has eyes for a new and shining star. You can find some great steals for players that may not be as popular as the major players, but they're impressive just the same. You'll just have to take a look at their stats and you can probably spot a trend.
Equally important with statistics are injuries. Did any of your players of choice got injured? Obviously this is vital information because unhealthy players, especially those who underwent serious injuries the previous season, may have a slow start the next season and perhaps, not contribute at all. Understanding the health conditions of all players should be at the top of the to-do list of any good team manager.
Every fantasy league has a draft, but before you participate you must already have a well-researched list of players you would want to draft for your NFL Fantasy Football team. The importance of having a prepared list for your team comes true here. If you have researched your picks well enough, then should you not be lucky enough to get your top choices, then your second picks should be composed of almost equally impressive players. Players that can contribute great performances for your team.
These are the main points on how to pick your NFL Fantasy Football team. It's a combination of having great information for your team (stats), understanding each players (know if they had a good season or if they had injuries), and having a well-prepared and well-researched roster of players that you would want playing for you.

Youth Football - Winning Special Teams
Kickoff Team: Make sure your kids are ten yards behind ball. It is important that they get a running start down the field. The team must stay onside (do not cross before the ball is kicked). Every player covering the kick needs to stay in their lanes. Practice kicking the ball off in practice! Practice onside kick recovery team as well.
Kickoff Return Team: Bring the wall to the ball!! Front line stays alert for an onside kick and then runs back to the returner. The players in the middle and back return rows run back to whoever fields the kick and creates the wall (wedge like), then blocks down field. Do not have your players try to block the kickoff coverage team too early. The coverage team will just go right around your blockers. There is too much space to be blocking too early, the kick returner must cut off your player's blocks. Make sure you prepare a hands team, to prevent teams from recovering an onside kick.
Punt Team: Foot to foot splits. Your team must block down to the shoulder of the linemen inside of them, staying low while stepping down & inside. Blocking backs line up on outside shoulder of the tight end or the last guy on the line of scrimmage. The blocking two blocking backs must have a nice wide base (make yourself big) and block inside to outside. The middle blocking back calls the snap count, lines up on kicker's foot side. Practice long snapping & punting the ball every day (make sure you have a few kids that can snap and kick). Make sure your players fan out when the ball is punted. Your coverage team needs to cover the whole field. The returner will likely go right outside with it so cover the whole field! Your punter should yell go when the ball is kicked so that blockers know to fan out down field & tackle the guy with the ball. Your punter should always yell the direction the ball was punted.
Punt Return Team: Punt block or Punt return? Punt block; your player's need to rush through each gap while linebackers line up right behind the D-linemen & they need to loop or cross. Also coaches need to make sure you have containment defenders to stop fakes. Keep someone back to field the punt so the punt team doesn't get a nice bounce their way. Punt return; your players should go to where the ball was kicked and lead block, bring the wall to the ball. Coaches you will still need containment players to defend against any kind of punt fake.
Extra Point Kick: In youth football the extra point kick is worth two points! So it is important that you practice this everyday or at least a few times a week. The line splits should be zero (foot to foot). The linemen block down to the hip of the linemen inside of them. Linemen need to stay low while stepping down & inside. The two blocking backs need to have a wide base "get big" and step down to the inside linemen's shoulder pads, always blocking inside first. Snapping, holding, and kicking needs to be practiced often. Snap count should be a fast count (silent count, ball movement, or on first sound) do not want the defense to have time to set up and try to block the kick.
Extra Point Block: The best area for your defense to block the extra point attempt is through the A (Between center & guard) & B gaps (Guard & Tackle), don't waste time trying to block it from the outside. You need to load up the A & B gaps on the side of their snap holder. You need to double team the A gap blocker (guard, do not hit the center it is a penalty in youth football), driving him back. Double team the B gap blocker (tackle), drive him back. Send linebackers right behind the double teams. If this is executed properly you will create penetration right up the middle, allowing linebackers to block the extra point. Also prepare your defense for fakes, containment and coverage schemes are needed.
Special Teams is one of the three main phases of youth football. You must practice all phases of special teams daily. One of the biggest mistakes a youth football coach can make is to overlook special teams. Youth football coaches should always make time for special teams. For example; there is one minute left in the game, you're losing by a touchdown you need to recover an onside kick! Coaches will either be glad they practiced it, or they will wish they had practiced their onside kick recovery more.

Having Trouble Finding Your Favorite College Football Jersey?
College football jerseys are the perfect answer for fans who want to show spirit, enthusiasm, support and loyalty for their favorite college football team. Football is a very popular sport, one that dominates the sports industry. Most colleges have football teams that work and play hard to excel at their favorite hobby: football. Teams, fans and family members and friends of team members and fans all love to show their pride and spirit by wearing football jerseys that represent the team's colors and numbers. Millions of fans all over the world love the idea of showing their support for their favorite college team by wearing college football jerseys and college sweatshirts.
While the cost of a high quality football jersey may be more than you want to pay, don't forget you are paying for the quality of materials and printing. Make sure you are getting what you pay for and make sure they are authentic replica quality and not some off brand knock off. Also, many manufacturers and retailers that make and sell football jerseys will designate a portion of the sales to be directed directly to the team themselves. So the next time you are eyeballing the price tag and are somewhat reluctant to jump for the purchase, remember that a few of the dollars you spend may go to directly benefit your favorite football team. The nice thing about college football jerseys and college sweatshirts is that they do not discriminate against size. It is very easy to find football jerseys for infants, babies, toddlers, children, and adults of all shapes and all sizes. Some companies even carry specialty college football jerseys for women. These are cut differently to accommodate the female form in a complementing and flattering manner, and may even feature pink and other female-friendly colors. The jerseys that are made for babies and children usually use more breathable materials, so to avoid chafing and rubbing against sensitive skin and areas. Another nice thing about college football jerseys is that they are perfect for any season. In the warm months, push sleeves up to allow fresh air to circulate around your body. In the winter, pair your jersey with a turtleneck for adequate warmth.
College football jerseys and College sweatshirts are available for purchase directly from most college stores. Teams themselves might sell jerseys and other apparel as a way of fundraising for their teams. Also, the internet carries many different jerseys for various teams and leagues all over the United States and even the world, so it's quite possible that you'll find the jersey you are looking for there.
Kim Green shares her insight regarding the finding and purchase of authentic replica College football jerseys and genuine College Sports Apparel.

The First Step in Setting Boundaries for Your Youth Football Team
Making Your Coaching Job Easier
Most coaches start off on the wrong foot by just digging in the first day of practice without setting ground rules for the players and parents. I've found that most people will put up with most things as long as they know ahead of time that's the way it's going to be, most people hate surprises.
It's something I learned in business. Let's imagine for a moment that you are selling a product that has a quality rating of 1-10, with 10 being the best. If I have a product that is let's say an 8, most customers will accept that as a fair product for the price I am quoting. However if I tell them the product is a 9, while 8 is acceptable they now have the EXPECTATION of 9. Typically even though 8 is just fine, they are now expecting 9 and receive an 8 and are dissatisfied. A better strategy is to present the product as a 7 and the customer is pleasantly surprised when they realize it is an 8. The best strategy is to under promise and over deliver. That's what we do in football as well.
We start the first practice with a 30 minute mandatory meeting for all parents and players. Our job here is to set expectations for the season. We hand out and review our player and spectator contract. Both spell out what we expect from each player and parent as well as our team rules as far as attendance, effort, academics and sportsmanship.
I then go into a set speech on what we expect from both parent and player. While I certainly review the fact we are going to have fun, play to our potential and that most of our teams play well, I paint a fairly bleak picture. We talk about;
Playing time.
Listening
Obedience
Respect
Attendance Requirements
Academic Requirements
No negotiating by player agents (parents)
Practice Organization
Set Offense and Defense
Overt Sportsmanship Requirements
Positions (what's best for the team)
Playing to Potential
All Decisions are Final
We are not the right "fit" for everyone.
Our overt sharing of our faith in Jesus Christ and prayer.
After we paint this fairly bleak picture we take a short break and then get into our two lines to start practice. Before we do that, I tell everyone that we aren't perfect but that none of what I talked about was negotiable. If they felt uncomfortable moving forward with our program, that was great, if not I have in my pocket the names and phone numbers of other local programs that probably needed players. I have yet to have anyone take me up on that offer. However I have had a parent or two that 2-3 weeks into the season I hand that slip of paper to. Sometimes I wait until the end of the season and send them a letter that says they will not be invited back along with the phone numbers listed of the other programs.
By having that talk and that contract signed, you have the moral authority to move forward in the direction you want as long as you hold up your end of the bargain. For our coaches, we have a coach's contract that spells out our expectations as well. This spells out what we expect and offers hardcore guidelines for their behavior in regards to sportsmanship, playing time, scoring margins etc.
Everything is laid out in the open to coaches, players and parents about what we expect and that our contracts are non-negotiable. This puts you on very solid ground as you move forward to start your first week of practice, If there are any problems, refer the coach, parent or player to the contract they signed, if they don't comply, it's time to move on with someone else.
It's always best to get this taken care of right off the bat.

University of Hawaii Football
The University of Hawaii at Manoa is the flagship campus in the University of Hawaii System of higher education that sports fans think of when they discuss the football program known both on and off the mainland as the Hawaii Warriors. On January 1, 2008 the Warriors made college football history by coming out of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) to become only the third non BCS (Bowl Championship Series) conference school to compete in a BCS game when they took the field against Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. While the Hawaii football team disappointingly came up short against Georgia in the 2008 New Year's Day game by a score of 41-10 this event was just a road bump in the rich history of an accomplished program that is determined to persevere for future greatness.
The University of Hawaii at Manoa has more than 20,000 students currently enrolled at the school based in the urban neighborhood of Honolulu (metro population 900,000) known as Manoa. The school that is located in the state capital was founded in 1907 and the football team had its first season in 1909. What is particularly remarkable about both the timing of the establishment of the university as well as the year of the first kickoff is that the island of Hawaii did not become an American state until August 21, 1959 and commercial air travel would not become common place for decades.
Long before the University of Hawaii played in the 50,000 seat Aloha Stadium that it now calls home the College of Hawaii took the field as the "Fighting Deans" and won the first game it ever played. The lopsided 95-5 victory was perhaps to be expected considering the roster of college athletes competed against high school students from McKinley High School in that inaugural contest. The competition would eventually ramp up with the first game against another college being a 14-0 losing effort against the University of Nevada on Christmas Day, 1920.
Over the years the University of Hawaii football program would incur its fair share of ups and downs. Among the low points in the history of the program are the cancellations of the 1912-1914 seasons as a result of World War I and the subsequent cancellations of the football seasons from 1942-1945 following the attack on Pearl Harbor and ensuing World War II involvement. A notable high point in the history of the program was the massive upset of the powerhouse Nebraska Cornhuskers in Lincoln, NE in 1955, just one year after Hawaii suffered an embarrassing 50-0 home loss to the perennial power Cornhuskers.
Due to travel budget concerns it was not until 1966 that the University of Hawaii could afford to schedule a full season comprised entirely of collegiate competition. Up until this point sporadic competition was often found in the form of area teams located on the remote set of islands that make up Hawaii.
Throughout the years the Hawaii program would grow due in no small part to its 1979 inclusion in the mid-tier Western Athletic Conference (WAC) which guaranteed that Hawaii would become exposed to an increased national audience. Eventually the Hawaii football program would produce All-Americans, first round NFL draft picks, record breaking quarterbacks, and Super Bowl champions. The January, 2008 Sugar Bowl appearance was a true testament to just how far the University of Hawaii football program has come.
In a depressing effort to make amends for past poor decisions (college location selection) Sam now throws up University of Hawaii wallpaper on his computer screen in the middle of winter to try and trick his brain into thinking he was smart enough to pick a warm climate long ago.
Sam is proposing a bold initiative that involves the participation of proud alumni to put up University of Hawaii desktop wallpaper on their computer screens to boost school pride. Furthermore, these fans are being asked to pass along this article and spread the word about this movement so that the collective pride in the Hawaii Warriors can be known around the world.

How to Maintain Your Football Team's Fan List
The postman carries as much mail back as he delivers. What is amazing, is how same organisations continue to send mail to the same address even when they receive bundles of it back. What does that tell us about such an organisation? They do not understand the dynamics of society. They do not understand that a list needs maintenance. All they are doing in the meantime is to enrich the post.
The following steps could go a long way in keeping your football club's fan list clean, current, accurate and relevant:
1. A list becomes outdated as soon as it is compiled
True, a list becomes outdated as soon as it is compiled. I have lived in flats before and I have witnessed movement hardly seen in other areas. Every month end tenants come and others go. But those that have gone generated mail and no sooner had they started receiving it than they moved on. People change jobs and others pass on. All these factors point to a need to continuously maintain your mailing list. If you do not do so they will be a lot of wastage.
2. Incomplete Data
Lists are often characterised by mistakes and incomplete data. Some people for one reason or another can never write information correctly or fully. Check out for this and try to correct it in order to avoid wastage.
3. Duplication
Scan your lists for duplication of fans. It is very irritating to some people and wasteful to your football club to send out the same information to one person several times. Clean the list and get rid of duplicate data.
One way you can sniff out this data is to filter similar names with a bit of variance and check to see whether the address is the same.
4. Segment your list
Your information and marketing will be most relevant and will receive the desired objective if it is sent to only the relevant people. For example you have a football match in Pretoria and you want to market it to your fans directly, it would be most fruitful to only appeal to those who can economically and geographically make it to Pretoria. It would be very wasteful to communicate with an unemployed fan based in Port Elizabeth (1,500km away). This person can not geographically and economically make it for this match, however much he loves the club.
5. Grow your list
It is very critical for your marketing team to use every working moment to grow your club's fan list. Every unregistered fan that they come across in one way or the other should be registered and communication initiated.
This helps in growing your fan base and the stronger the relationship you grow with these fans the more they act as fan evangelists and recruit new fans for your team.
Success in the business of football is about getting the business of fans right. When this happens all other factors can easily fall into place. To get the business of fans correct, you must know them by name and create a relationship with them. It is therefore imperative to work on your fan lists aggressively.
Give your football club a chance to succeed beyond your wildest dreams. Fans are the corner stone of football business success, but they are the most ignored. We can help you change this for your benefit and the benefit of your club. Football Shirts to Support Your Team
Are you a die hard football fan and support your football team with all the enthusiasm and passion? Most of the football fans who are crazy about their teams and leagues make sure that they are present in the stadium when the match is going on so that they can cheer and shout and encourage their team to win, but do you really think that's enough? Your soccer stars who are in the middle of the stadium can hardly hear your chanting because there are thousands of spectators screaming at the top of their lungs at the same time. Hence, a football shirt is one of the best ways to tell your team that you are there to support them.
Since the evolution of football shirts, soccer fans have always gone ahead and purchased their favorite soccer jerseys to make sure that people know which team they support and which player they idolize. Football shirts today have become a symbol of support and passion rather than just a normal jersey. Many garment companies have now realized that making football shirts has a great future because it becomes a sign of respect and passion that the wearer has for his team and there are countless numbers of fans out there who are ready to show their feelings to their favorite team and leagues.
If you are watching any football game on your television set you will notice that people today wear football shirts when they are going to watch a soccer game and when the TV camera focuses on the crowd you will find a huge bunch of people wearing the same color soccer jerseys which is very similar to what team they are supporting. Footballers on the ground might not be able to everything that their fans say to them but they can see an entire crowd wearing similar soccer jerseys which gives them a confidence to play harder and win the game for their fans. If you do not get the ticket for the game, you can still go ahead and wear your favorite football shirt and go to a bar where they telecast the live match on a bigger screen. You will find that many people in the bar too will be wearing their favorite football shirts and other team accessories which make it clear that they are always there to support and cheer their favorite football team in the public.

How to Pick a Winning Fantasy Football Team
So, you're wondering what goes into drafting a top-notch fantasy football squad huh? We'll that's surely something open to debate as that if you ask 10 different so-called experts, you'll probably get 10 different answers.
With that in mind, I have been running a fantasy league for about a decade now. While I can't tell you that I've won every time, I can assure you that my teams have consistently made the league playoff round and I have won 2 league titles. That's not too bad. That said, I'd like to offer up my strategy for building a competitive fantasy team.
Fantasy football has been around for decades. But, with the advent of the Internet, researching potential players for your team has become much, much easier and quicker. You can find the newest information online regarding injuries, suspensions, trades and just about everything else almost instantly. Take advantage of this.
1. PLAYER RANKINGS
First and foremost, you'll want to look into player rankings. One of the best ways of doing this is through a simple search on the web. I'd look for rankings done by established and reputable sources like ESPN, Sport Illustration, NFL.com, CBS Sportsline and such. But, don't rule out consulting one of the other listings that may not be among the names you're familiar with. They sometimes offer a fresh prospective that can be very useful.
2. DRAFTING
Drafts usually happen in one of two formats, live or auto. Live drafts are conducted in real time while auto drafts use your own player rankings to select your players automatically when your pick comes up in the order. Either way, a good approach is to take the player rankings you researched and select a number of players for each position that you would like to have as possible additions to your team. Create a list and use this as your intended drafting order.
Also make sure to avoid drafting too many players from the same team of teams that might have byes on the same week. You could end up with a disastrous shortage of players for a crucial match.
3. PLAYER VALUE
There are many different formulas for scoring in fantasy leagues. However, one rule generally remains the same. The players on which you should put the most emphasis are running backs. This is why most overall ranking systems that aren't done by position have a large number of running backs as the top ranking players.
Generally, you should emphasize positions in order of scoring value which from top to bottom would be running backs, quarterbacks, wide receivers, tight ends, defenses and finally place kickers. Although some might argue it a little differently, i.e. flip quarterbacks and wide receivers or to move defenses up to third on the priority list, this should give you a pretty good indication.
4. DON'T BREAK BUT BE WILLING TO BEND - THE RULES
While generally running backs should be your first pick, it is not unheard of to choose a wide receiver or quarterback first overall. There is nothing written in stone that says you have to have every player on your potential draft list being one of the top 5 or 6 guys according to researched rankings. Look for a possible breakout star here and there. You could end up with a pleasant surprise.

Designing Your Teams Football Uniforms Online
Individuals or teams are craving custom logos and designs in t-shirts and uniforms these days. The sports market for this industry is huge now along with an ever increasing demand. Advancements in today's technology have made these high dollar custom printing machines more affordable and durable. More and more companies now are getting into this industry because of the demand. Every football team wants their own unique shirt or jersey that no one else has.
With the increased number of custom uniform shops opening the competition has leveled out the prices to make it affordable to any individual. Many companies have also expanded their business to the online world and are available to the mass market. These companies offer a fun website where you can actually design the uniform you want right onto their site. You can upload pictures or other work that you have created and move it around onto the shirt or uniform to see how it looks. This user friendly application allows for an increased amount of sales when compared to having to take the time to visit a local shop.
Within the design application you can also select the brand and style of the jersey you are interested in. After picking out the style of shirt you can pick out your team colors and create the actual design along with inputting the numbers and names. The ease of this application allows for a quick process to have your shirt(s) or football uniforms made within days of your creation date.

2008 Worst College Football Teams - If it Were Not For Losers, There Wouldn't Be Winners
"Without losers, there wouldn't be winners" - unknown author, but probably a loser. As we approach the climax of the college football season, The Sage of College Football (your humble author) suggests that we turn our attention for a few moments to those programs that once held such promise in the late summer months, only to smack their noodles into the frozen artificial turf of December's reality. For some teams, season ending games conclude with the ritual of tearing down of goalposts. Others result in the school selling off unused hot dogs from the stadium deep freeze to starving students who spent their student loan money on beer.
At the professional level, teams that finish at the bottom refer to this time of year as the beginning of golf season. And given the paychecks of most players and coaches, they don't have to worry much about competing with retirees for tee times. The one disappointment in 2008 has been that in writing about the college game, the Sage can't slam the Detroit Lions. The pitiful old motor city franchise looks as it has finally blown all it's gaskets and not even the team ownership seems to care. At least Lions players get paid something for losing. Professional players have a paycheck coming in and a vacation to look forward to. At the college level though, players on losing teams are compelled to visit their respective Religious Studies Departments to seek inner peace. Their coaches seek employment.
Fans of losing college teams also use the offseason for contemplative reflection. One of the more interesting observations occurs when the over-dedicated fan reviews how much money was spent following the team into the toilet. Season tickets, beer and liquor, nachos and hot dogs and the associated medical bills really add up.
Mental Health experts concluded long ago that dedicating too much time effort and money on one's team is also hard on relationships. For those fans lucky enough to have identified a different-sex partner to share the misery of a disastrous season, this presents a double-edged sword. On one hand, the fan may have someone with whom to share the burdens of recovery. On the other, the left over bills and charge card accounts may run double. And for what? Seeing their team scrape together one or two wins against lower division opponents?
Sports Information Offices use this time to come up with new promotional ideas. The Sage has always wanted to be in on an SIO meeting after a 1 and 11 campaign. The new promo ideas generally center on how to convince alumni to overlook the annual season ticket price increase. Or... how to creatively inform alumni that their reserved parking places that have been in the family for generations, are being discontinued so that the school can construct a new kiln for the Art department. Names of alumni that agree to repurchase their seats at inflated prices are handed over to the University Development Office for immediate inclusion in the fund raising effort du jour.
A common technique used by losing institutions is to cloud the record of the past year by introducing a new head coach. Individuals agreeing to take these jobs generally extract huge sums for this. Standing before confused and bewildered fans and players and promising to right the ship by "changing the way we think" and "bringing in a winning attitude" is something that should generate a huge paycheck by itself. Saying this stuff with a straight face takes talent. The Detroit Lions ownership should be taking notice... this is at least something to try.
The university staff at Washington has a unique challenge this year. The abysmal Huskies competed a 0-12 season capped off by a 48-7 shellacking at the hands of Cal - hardly the kind of game one wants to end a season on. At least they played that one in Berkeley. Adding misery to insult, the Huskies perfect record sets a new mark for futility within the Pac-10. The wise old Sage of College Football (your humble author) can't wait to see how the institution spins this one. The Huskies have already completed their search for a new head coach and have convinced a Mr. Steve Sarkisian to give up some great weather at Southern Cal to take over the Pac-10's doormat program. The Sage wishes Coach Sark a hearty "good luck." He may learn to appreciate the fog that rolls into Husky Stadium. It does make players, coaches and the future difficult to see.
The Huskies however, aren't the only college team with a lot to forget from 2008. And it is indeed time to put the final nail in the 2008 coffin for these teams. Looking ahead, some of these programs will emerge from the ranks of the worst to achieve respectability. Others will trip and fall on their snooters coming out of the locker room for the spring game.
It is will pride then, that the Sage of College Football presents his picks for the worst 10 teams in college football. However, we should first review a few rules. Primarily, only teams that actually harbor any ambition to become BCS qualified or to -gasp- compete for a national championship one day, are included. Secondly, only major conferences are included. When was the last Middle-America or Conference USA team that had a shot at a big time title? The Sage isn't thinking that Eastern, Central or Western Michigan seriously entertain thoughts of a national championship. So.. without further ado, here are the Sage's picks for the 10 worst college football teams of 2008.
1. Washington Huskies -
Obviously....The purple dogs of the northwest found a way to get the job done in all games this year, including some monumental defeats to Notre Dame, USC and UCLA. Admittedly these are cherry-picked games, but the soggy doggies of Seattle lost these games by a combined score of 116 to 14. In the process, the poor purple team sent its fans off to Starbucks early in each home game. Even though the Huskies kept a game or two close for a while, they still gave up a grand total of 136 points more than they scored in seven home games this year.
2. Washington State Cougars -
It is usually a good season if the Cougars beat archrival and Pac-10 foe Washington in the annual campaign. Unfortunately for the Cougars, that was their only conference win. Interestingly, the only other Cougar victory occurred back in September against a team from Portland State. The Sage is unsure when the Big Sky Conference boasted its last national contender. The state of Washington deserves a honorable mention in the 2008 FirstWorst rankings this year for producing two of the most dismal gridiron performances in history.
3. Idaho Vandals -
The Sage has endured another season waiting in vain for Idaho to change its hapless name. The name "Vandals" would normally inspire images of a wild hoard sacking villages and carrying off opposing cheerleaders. This team doesn't provide much - other than a good excuse to carry off a few cold ones from the local Git N Go. The only Vandal victories (admittedly a contradiction in terms) came in games against other awful programs at New Mexico State and Idaho State.
4. New Mexico State Aggies -
The Sage thought that all programs named "Aggies" had been forced into a change by disgruntled alumni. Particularly for anyone that lives within smelling distance of Las Cruces, you know there isn't a lot of agribusiness taking place there except for the miles of feedlots along I-10. One would think that the school would be anxious to change the name and perhaps try to attract a quality recruit or two. Unfortunately for these Aggies, the 2008 team should have been forced off the field. Despite a decent win against archrival Texas El Paso, the Aggies could only manage more points in games against Alcorn and Nevada.
5. Indiana Hoosiers -
It is alternately a pleasure and a bit of a disappointment to include a Big Ten team in the FirstWorst rankings. One of college football's most storied conferences boasts a tradition of great rivalries and thrilling games. Unfortunately at Indiana, the rivalry is with the basketball program to see who can attract more fans to a single game. Since Bobby Knight's departure, even this has become interesting. Still, basketball at Indiana attracts great athletes who might be able to give the football team a good game. Indiana does deserve credit for trying to follow a proven pathway to respectability. After scheduling games with Western Kentucky and someone called Murray State (also from Kentucky) the Hoosiers minimized travel costs in paying someone to visit the school and lose. After a 2-0 start, the Hoosiers returned to reality, managing only one conference win - their Homecoming Game over Northwestern.
6. Duke Blue Devils -
The Bluish Devils have been a favorite whipping boy for the first worst rankings over the years. As they play in one of the monster football conferences, winning seasons are few and far between. However one would think that with all the brain power at Duke, the program should at least compete for something besides last place. To their credit, Duke did manage a couple reasonably good quality wins over Virginia and Vanderbilt. Imagine calling a win over the Cavaliers and Commodores "quality" wins.
7. Louisville Cardinals -
These Cardinals had a really good schedule in their 2008 campaign to get back into the bowl picture. But by giving up nearly 200 points in their last five games sealed their place in the FirstWorst rankings. The Cards finished strong with a five game losing streak including losses to Syracuse and a 64 to 14 smackdown at the hands of Rutgers.
8. Syracuse Orange -
Teams with singular team names (Orange or in Stanford's case, 'Cardinal') deserve to lose. Football is a team game played by multiple players. Although it may be grammatically correct to call a team a singular name, the practice strays from well established tradition and teams that stray from tradition deserve to get whacked. But we digress... Syracuse did manage to beat #7 Louisville in 2008. They also managed a win over the powerhouse program at Northeastern. For each team, there is one game that justifies the annual season ticket price increase, and Syracuse didn't disappoint, by delivering a solid effort in an exciting win over Notre Dame in late November. Still one quality win does not a season make.
9.San Diego State Aztecs -
Oh Ouch! A season with wins over Idaho and Nevada Las Vegas doesn't qualify as a banner year. Still the Aztecs play in San Diego and the recruits that signed up to play there are thanking their lucky stars that they didn't sign with Buffalo or someplace where it gets cold. And after a loss, Aztec players can still go to the beach and oogle the babes in bikinis. The Aztecs had some decent games on the schedule for 2008 and they came through by losing most of them - including a 21-13 loss to Notre Dame in week two. The Aztec's best effort came against Brigham Young, in which the Aztecs uncharacteristically delivered a strong road win 41 - 12. Alumni should be looking for their price increases in
the mail shortly.
10. Wyoming Cowboys -
Any teams playing in brown home uniforms are going to have trouble on the field. Recruiting players to cold and windswept Laramie is difficult enough without dressing them up in the same colors as -well - the part of the cold and windswept prairie that is used by cows. For many years one of the tallest buildings in the state of Wyoming was the football stadium. And now the Cowboy faithful can expect to pay a bit more for their seats in War Memorial Stadium due to the Cowboys win over (I can't believe I'm writing this) the Tennessee Volunteers. Granted, UT had a difficult year, but losing to Wyoming? Oweee! Anyway.. the Cowboys managed a top ten first worst finish by managing only one Mountain West win and that over San Diego State.
So the 2008 college football season comes to a close for the programs at the bottom. The off season will be filled with coaches looking for work and players looking for cheerleaders. No doubt the Detroit Lions coaching staff will be surveying the ranks of first worst schools scouring for players willing to continue their losing tradition.
As college football fans wait for the spring games and look for ways to build false hope for 2009, the Sage will continue to bring you the wild and outrageous side of losing.

What Are the Qualities of a Football Team Defender?
Who is a defender in a football team? Are there various kinds of defenders? Are there certain qualities that a defender must possess? Read on and you will find out.
A defender is a player that helps to protect the goal area of a football team. He or she does most of the work that the goalkeeper would have done if he or she were not there. A defender takes care of the opponent ever before he or she gets to the goal area. A defender makes sure that the opponent does not find a chance to shoot the ball or attempt to score a goal.
There are various kinds of defenders. Some defenders are called left full backs because they take care of the left flank of the team's area. Some of them are called right full backs because they are in charge of the right side of the team's area. There are also some defenders that are called central defenders and sweepers.
Now, look at the qualities:
1. Stamina: A good defender should be very strong on the ball. He or she should not let go easily; he or she should have enough strength to mark the opponent especially when the opponent is heading towards the goal area. A good defender should be determined to resist the opponent at any time during a football match. A good defender should be resilient. This is why a defender should be 100% fit before a match.
2. Speed: He should be swift. This is one quality that makes a very good defender. He should not allow the opponent to outrun him or her. A good defender should be able to go front and come back with relative ease especially at this time of modern football when a team defends en masse and attacks same.

Personalised Football Shirts For Football Teams
If you're a 5 a side or amateur football team, finding the correct supplier of football shirts is important. When choosing your team football kits it is important to make sure that your supplier can also accommodate your needs in terms of providing football kit printing and/or embroidery so that your team's kits can be personalised.
Many local suppliers can help you choose your kits and you should be able to select from a wide range of colours and sizes to design the perfect football team wear for your club, combining your team colours with matching football shirts, shorts and socks. Prostar, a well known maker/supplier of quality team football kits, (who supply their products through a network of registered distributors) ensure that their products use fabrics that can easily accommodate printing and embroidery, but they do not include personalisation of kits within their standard pricing structure. In many cases your local distributor can provide printing and embroidery of football shirts, shorts and in some cases socks. In addition some will also be able to provide similar services for team training wear.
When personalising team football kits this can be done by incorporating your team emblem as a printed logo or the logo can be embroidered on your new shirts and shorts as required. It is also possible and quite common to add printed sponsors logos. Names and numbers can also be printed to ensure each player has the perfect football kit.
If emblem and logo printing/embroidery is required there is normally an initial charge for generating the artwork template, but this template can be used many times in the future to produce more personalised football kits with only the cost of the actual printing/embroidery then being charged.
When selecting your kit supplier/distributor it is important to ensure that you select one that can handle your printing/embroidery needs along with the supply of the team football kits and that they not only have experience of the personalisation process but that they are familiar with and know how to handle the fabrics that their suppliers are using in their football kits.
The author, John Nicholson, has over 20 years experience of supplying football teamwear. His company Sports International UK, based in Manchester, North West England, UK, is a registered distributor of Prostar products and can supply team football kits, personalised football shirts, shorts and training wear, accessories and equipment. Further details of the range available can be found on http://www.sportsinternationaluk.co.uk
Ten Worst Teams in the NFL
Through the midway point of the 2008 NFL season, this is the list of the worst teams in the NFL. They are categorized from least worst to the worst.
10. San Diego Chargers: The Chargers have struggle with LaDainian Tomlinson to get the running game going this year. It seems in his last game in London he started turning on the afterburners. But will it be enough to get his team into the playoffs this year?
9. Minnesota Vikings: If you can't get the passing game going, it's hard to get the running game working, and vice versa. We'll Gus Frerotte is not that much better than Tavaris Jackson. You'd think with a decent defense and Adrian Peterson that at least have a break even record. They are at 3-5 and may get worse.
8. Houston Texans: They are struggling more than their talked about Texas counterparts. That's because nobody like to talk about teams that have never or are not likely to make the playoffs anytime soon. They are in a tough division with Indianapolis and the undefeated Tennessee Titans. They have a decent team, Gary Kubiak isn't doing a good enough job and should be replaced.
7. San Francisco 49ers: Shaun Hill is going to be their quarterback for this week, who is that? I think Alex Smith is out for the season or something. They have old wide receivers like Isaac Bruce who needs replacing.
6. Seattle Seahawks: "Why so serious?" The Joker asked in The Dark Knight. Well, coach Mike Holmgren would say because my football team isn't playing like they should. This is a guy who took the Packers (with help from Brett Favre) to the Superbowl. He said he will sit out next year as is the tradition with most great coaches. Because they know they'll get that call from a team that wants them to return their franchise to greatness the same year they retire anyway. Their defense is good they just need some talented wide receivers and better tight ends.
5. Oakland Raiders: What can we say about the Raiders that hasn't been said? Well I can't really, so I'll just emphasis it. They have replaced their coaches way too often thanks to Owner Al Davis. Also, Davis hires the wrong players for the wrong era (1960's and 70's) football. He then blames coaches for everything. This franchise will eventually cease to exist unless someone with enough money coaxes him to sell the team to them. I doubt that will happen anytime soon. They have plenty of talent on both sides of the ball, they just need consistent coaching and smart staff to whip them into shape.
4. St. Louis Rams: They give up the fourth most amount of rushing yards a game. That is something to look at. They should draft some better linebackers as well as some some new tight ends. Torry Holt and Marchus Bulger aren't playing in their prime anymore so they could also look for help in those departments.
3. Kansas City Chiefs: Herm Edwards has never taking a team to the Superbowl, and is unlikely to at this rate. I'm surprised the Chiefs have even one a game this year. With Larry Johnson getting suspended and them not being able to find a quarterback to save their life. They should keep trading for another teams backup quarterback until they get a decent one. I hear Matt Leinhart isn't doing anything lately if they wanna give him a call.
2. Detroit Lions: Coach Rod Marinelli better watch out for his job as 0-7 is not acceptable in Detroit. The Lions traded away their best receiver in Roy Williams to Dallas. Big Mistake. As they are going to get late round picks for both draft picks traded. The Lions are worst in the league in overall defense giving up 30.3 points per game. Next year they need to use all their draft picks on defense.
1. Cincinnati Bengals: Probably one of the most talented teams I've seen to go 0-8 in a long while. They still have Carson Palmer, Houshmanzadeh, Chad Johnson on their team. They brought in Cedric Benson to help with their running game. They may need a better running back and more help on their offensive line to give their quarterback more time. They have had plenty of close game, they just weren't able to close out games.

What Are the Qualities of a Football Team Goalkeeper?
A football team is made up of 11 players. The 11 players are made up of defenders, midfielders, wingers, strikers or forwards and just one goalkeeper.
There is no way a team can play a match without a goalkeeper. And there is no way a team can have more than one goalkeeper at the same time on a field of play.
A football team goalkeeper is the last man or woman standing. If a goalkeeper is beaten during a football match, a goal is as good as scored because he or she is the player responsible for keeping the goal in order to prevent the opponents from scoring goals.
Now, here are the qualities of a goalkeeper:
1. Clear Vision: A football team goalkeeper is supposed to have good eyes. He or she ought to be seeing very well. A goalkeeper that has any form of eye defect or problem is liable to make mistakes that can result in conceding cheap goals. A goalkeeper should be able to see the ball very well as it comes but he or she cannot see it if he or she lacks a clear vision.
2. Agility: A goalkeeper has to show a great level of sharpness, liveliness, dexterity, quickness, or alertness. In fact, this is one of the most important qualities of a goalkeeper. A goalkeeper should not be there at the goalpost in the first place if he or she is too dull to go for the ball as it comes to the goalmouth. This is why a goalkeeper should not be heavy, obese or overweight - he or she should be light so that he or she can dive without any difficulty.
3. Confidence: A goalkeeper should be as brave and bold as a lion or a cat. There is no way a goalkeeper can operate if he or she is full of tension and fear. In fact, a football team stands a chance of losing a match if the goalkeeper lacks the much needed confidence to keep the ball.

Football - Kansas City Chiefs
Kansas City, MO is the home to the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs football team. With a capacity of over 79,000 seats, Arrowhead Stadium is the place to be during the fall in Kansas City. How did the Kansas City Chiefs football team get its start? Here are some interesting background facts on this popular team.
The Kansas City Chiefs actually began as the Dallas Texans of the AFL. Owner Lamar Hunt later moved the Texans to Kansas City in 1963. The Dallas Cowboys were already in Dallas and the area just couldn't support a second professional football team. After moving the team to Kansas City, Mr. Hunt was looking for a new name for the team. The mayor at the time the Chiefs moved to Kansas City was nicknamed "Chief". Lamar Hunt took the nickname and renamed the Texans, the Chiefs.
The Chiefs have been a successful franchise over the years. They have made the playoffs 14 times. In 1967, the Kansas City Chiefs played the Green Bay Packers in the very first Super Bowl. Even though they lost the game 35-10, the Chiefs are proud to have been a part of history. Later, in 1970, the Chiefs again reached the Super Bowl and this time they defeated the Minnesota Vikings to become the world champions. That was the last time the Kansas City Chiefs have been to football's Super Bowl.
Over the years the Chiefs have had many Hall of Fame players on their roster. Here are just a few of the many great players to play football in a Kansas City uniform:
o Len Dawson
o Joe Montana
o Marcus Allen
o Willie Lanier
o Buck Buchanan
o Bobby Bell
o Jan Stenerud
o Hank Stram
o Mike Webster
The Kansas City Chiefs have also had their own list of tragedies such as the death of Derrick Thomas in 2000 from injuries suffered in an automobile accident. Among others, there was the sudden drowning of Joe Delaney, who tried to save 3 teenagers from drowning in an LA lake.
The players, as well as the Kansas City Chiefs football organization, do a lot more than just play football on Sunday's during the fall. They are constantly giving their time for charitable causes throughout the Kansas City area year round. In 2004 the Chiefs help raise over $14 million for various charities in the area. In addition, many of the Chiefs players also assist in charities of their own choosing.
The Chiefs have been playing their games since 1972 in Arrowhead Stadium, which is considered to be one of the best stadiums in the National Football League. Opposing players agree that it is one of the toughest places to play a football game in. The noise created by the fans is deafening to their opponents. In addition, some of the best tailgating parties and food can be found in Kansas City.
The Kansas City Chiefs fans show their support during the season and throughout the year by proudly wearing the red and white colors of the team. During home football games, Arrowhead Stadium becomes a sea or red. The Chiefs have a great organization, with great fans. They will be near the top of the league for years to come.

History of Houston Football
Houston has a rich and proud history of professional sports. With football being such an important part of life in Texas, the city of Houston boasts a rich tradition of professional football going back 50 years. With the loss of the Oilers in 1996 it was only a matter of time before pro football would be restored to the city and its loyal fans.
The first professional football team in Houston was the Houston Oilers. The team was started in 1959 by owner Bud Adams who was also a co-founder of the AFL. The Houston Oilers took part in the first ever AFL championship match and beat the then Los Angeles Chargers to claim the title. The oilers and their fans continued to enjoy many years of football in Houston before their owner decided to unceremoniously move the team to Tennessee in 1996 with the lure of a new state of the art stadium which they moved into in 1998. Despite huge public outcry against the move the owner decided to move the team anyway and pay millions to the city of Houston for damages for the loss of the team to the city. With football being such a huge part of Texas it would not be long before professional football would be returned to the city of Houston and their great and loyal fans. However, it was not easy to get a new team and many obstacles had to be overcome before the NFL would grant Houston with a new franchise.
In 1997 the now current majority owner Bob Mcnair began a push to bring professional football back to Houston by establishing a new organization called Houston NFL Holdings. In 1998 the NFL announced that it had narrowed its search for a new location for its 32nd franchise to three possible locations. These were Toronto, Los Angeles and Houston. Los Angeles quickly became the front runner to get the new franchise mainly because of its huge media market. Houston officials announced that they would build a new domed stadium as part of their plan to compete for the new franchise. At the same time entertainment guru Michael Ovitz announced plans to a new state of the art stadium in Los Angeles. Both Mcnair and Ovitz would put pressure on the NFL to make a decision on the new franchise by early 1999 so as to keep public support from waning. Meanwhile Ovitz would receive competition in his own market from real estate developer Ed Roski whose proposal involved renovating the Los Angeles coliseum.
In early 1999 the NFL owners voted in favor of Los Angeles with their decision being contingent on the city putting together an acceptable ownership team and stadium deal. If they were not able to accomplish this, the NFL announced it would then turn its attention to awarding Houston with the new franchise.
Subsequently the city of Los Angeles decided it would not permit tax dollars to be used to help build a new stadium and neither Roski nor Orwitz were willing to work together or build a new stadium on private financing alone. Since Houston was prepared to build a brand new state of the art stadium, they then became the front runner to get the new NFL franchise. Despite late efforts by Los Angeles to secure a deal the NFL finally decided to award Houston with the new team in October of 1999 and accepted Mcnairs 700 million dollar offer as well as award Houston with the 2004 Super Bowl.
Thanks to persistence and hard work professional football had been restored to Houston where it belongs. The new franchise would decide upon the name Houston Texans after receiving permission to use the name from Lamar Hunt who had previously founded the name Dallas Texans and which later would become the Kansas City Chiefs. With former Denver Bronco assistant Gary Kubiak now in place as the head coach and quarterback Matt Schaub signed, the Houston Texans hope to establish a winning tradition for years to come. Along with their loyal fans they are looking toward the new season as a breakthrough year.
