Are you Ready For Fantasy Football?

To be honest, I knew very little about fantasy football. I was one of those sports fans who follows football when it is in season, watches some games on TV, follows games on the internet, somehow remembers every score and stat, and then gets really excited during the playoffs and, of course, the Super Bowl. I don't have the time or money to go see actual NFL games, though I am sure I'd greatly enjoy them.

Anyway, I kept seeing ads for fantasy football online and in other places wondered what it was, so I did some research. Apparently, fantasy football is a sports game for those who want to be involved with football all year round. And not just involved as in watching games, but actually owning, managing and running a "fantasy" football team. When the real football season starts - and it can be the NFL or a division of the NCAA or some other league - scores in the fantasy football leagues are determined by using statistics compiled by actual players.

Who started fantasy football, and when? It all goes back almost 50 years when a limited partner in the Oakland Raiders and some of his sports writer and editor friends cooked up the idea during a long road trip. When they got back, they started the first fantasy football league. Initially, it was hard to form leagues and keep the information flowing, but then came personal computers and finally the Web. Today, fantasy football is big business and fantasy football team fanatics are being courted by television networks and advertisers because they watch more games, buy more tickets, and spend more on their sport than average fans.

But how does it all work? The big attraction of fantasy football is that it's not just watching games. Fantasy football is living the game and actively participating in it. You pick a team, you draft players, you follow rules, you observe salary caps and negotiate contracts. Franchise owners may have to pay (fictional) taxes, trade players, and, of course, try to win games and championships, establish dynasties or make to a coveted Hall of Fame. Things can get quite competitive, but you make friends in the process and many of the same teams play each other season after season.

Fantasy football games have as many rules as the real thing. Scoring can be complex as it depends on the stats of actual players on actual teams. And since fantasy league teams have players from a number of teams, a fantasy franchise owner often doesn't know which real-world team he should root for! What's important here is that the real performance and stats of real players in real games decides how well your fantasy team does. So picking and drafting the right players is very important.

How do you get started with this fascinating and addictive pastime? Fantasy football information is easy to come by on the web. Look around, check some of the many leagues, and then sign up with one and become a team owner. There are any number of leagues with different flavors and rules (the commissioner usually determines the scoring system). Some leagues cost a lot, but others are affordable and suit the novice as well as the expert fantasy football player. Give it a shot!

Redskins Bounce Back With Win Over Rams

To beat the Rams at home by a score of 9-7 isn't exactly impressive, but they'll take it however they can get it. At least the defense seemed to be effective. Then again, it all happened against the Rams, a team that struggled to score throughout 2008 and seems to have the same problem in 2009.

The Washington Redskins find themselves in arguably the toughest division in football. The Cowboys, Giants, and Eagles play competitive football nearly every year, and attempting to win that division is an extremely tall order for a team like Washington. For this reason, every game and every week matters to the fullest.

The Redskins have an interesting team in the sense that it's considered well rounded. On the other hand, they have the weakest quarterback in the division in Jason Campbell (while he's a good quarterback, he doesn't compare to the likes of Donovan McNabb, Eli Manning, or Tony Romo), and the defenses in New York, Philadelphia, and Dallas are all stronger than that in Washington.

Their receivers (Santana Moss, Chris Cooley, etc.) are good, but not great, and while Clinton Portis is no doubt one of the best running backs of the decade, he's aging a bit, and seems to have lost a step.

Where the Skins will go from here is anybody's guess, but they remain a long shot to win the division. This is a tough division, and barring any major injuries to the other teams, I just don't see the Redskins vying for a playoff spot.

Football Kits Are a Positive Motivational Factor

By association we remember at once the team by its football kit - the colour, the style and design, the fabric and embroidered extras - such as team logo/name, Sponsor Name and logo and shirt number. The fact that the shorts may also have embroidered numbers or Logo adds to the overall impact the football team kit has on all who see it.

You could say that it is the official uniform of any football team. Take away the uniform and their identity is lost. It is therefore reasonable to deduce that football kits, once chosen, form a team identity that becomes an integral part of the team branding and promotion that makes them unique. It is not unusual for professional teams to have a number of football kits, for example, a second kit to facilitate playing against other teams with similar colours. Again they are instantly recognisable in their away kit - it becomes part of the team image - and these different kits are synonymous with the team.

Once a team football kit has been established then the identity is clear and unmistakeable. This is what motivates managers and coaches to insist on football kits. They provide a sense of unity, purpose, consistency and continuity and stamp an image of professionalism and attractiveness on the team.

The concept of belonging can also be extended to the team supporters who are very often seen wearing their team colours at all their matches. The team football kits are a focus for more than just the players - they also motivate others to come out and actively support the team at both home and away matches. It becomes a community/ family this creates a sense of bonding and pride that further motivates the team to raise its performance levels on a consistent note.

Wearing football kits instils a sense of pride in teams and motivates them to perform well and succeed under a corporate banner. Each player is spurred on by the desire to work hard for the colours and the team - should the colours be historic or new - the sense of bonding and belonging grows stronger. How often have we heard teams referred to simply by their football kits or some aspect of the kits - for example - The Reds, The Blues, The Candy Stripes, The Hoops- the list is endless? This is testament to the prime importance of football kits and their association with particular teams.

Bearing all these facts in mind we recognise what factors motivate managers, coaches and teams in their purchase of football kits. They know that to purchase the appropriate kit will provide the motivation a team needs to progress and perform with pride. The choice on line is not only extensive but qualitative so go on line and see for yourself. Choose an online sales company that is reputable and you can make a successful purchase every time.

Here at http://www.royalsportskit.com/ we have developed our own ranges of football kits offering superb quality and value for money - as our customers have testified - so check all of our football kits.

Football Tailgating Parties - 5 Items That You Don't Want to Forget

Tailgating more and more is turning into a sport of its own. There are cooking competitions, tailgating parties that look more like 5 star hotels, and the tremendous energy and excitement. It seems like everyone has their own tailgating experience down to an art, and are more than willing to share a few secrets of tailgating bliss. Instead of doing the usual article of "this is what you need" we have decided to cover some essential items that you don't want to leave at home. So break out your note pads let's get ready to plan.

Item number 1: The Meat

Who would forget the meat? Seriously, I mean who would ever forget the best part of tailgating. Well we wouldn't state it if it wasn't important, and I have heard rumors of a tailgater in Tennessee that forgot the pulled pork...let's just say that a 30 mile walk home was considered a light punishment. All kidding aside you really ca not forget the beef, pork, brats, and whatever else you want to consume on a fine tailgating afternoon. Just as a note for all of you hot pepper lovers...bring antacids and lots of them!

Item number 2: The tickets

Do not, I repeat, do not forget the tickets. We have put this as number 2 because however odd it may seem, there are many people who tailgate just to tailgate. They bring their plasma TV park it and then watch it in the parking lot. Now we will not discriminate you for wanting to enjoy a good tailgate. Hey we would rather be tailgating than pretty much any other place, but you have to enjoy the game at lease a couple of times from in the stadium. There is nothing that can capture the action like being in the stadium, hearing the crowd, and cheering for a great team.

Item number 3: The football

You got to have fun in tailgating. It is all about getting yourself in the mood to watch a great game. It is about remembering old times and experiencing the football fever all over again. There isn't a tailgate that we have not gone too that didn't have at least a father and son playing catch in the parking lot. Tailgate parties are great for a pickup game or even a light game of 500.

Item number 4: The team flag

Team flags equal team spirit. However another reason that you should bring a flag is find-ability. With most tailgating parties there will be a lot of cars from many different places coming to your tailgating party. Having a team flag will help them find you in a flash. Make sure to hoist it up high, we have heard that the highest flag means that they are the biggest fan!

Item number 5: The fan gear

Nothing gets you in the mood for a great football season then the latest football gear. This is especially true if your team just won the super bowl. I mean, what is the point of winning if you are not going to show off a little!

Conclusion

Tailgating is about having a great time with your friends and families. This list of essentials: Meat, tickets, footballs, flags, and fan gear are meant to help you get ready for an awesome season and to enjoy tailgating to its fullest extent. So kick back relax and enjoy!

Flag Football Plays - Strategies For A Winning Team

What does it take to win at flag football? A physically talented team? An organized team? A lucky team?

Here are Dr. G's top 10 keys to winning in flag football.

1. Flag football playbook - an architect would never attempt to build a house without a blue print or "plans". Just the same, a team should never show up to a game without good plays or a game plan. Make sure you have a reliable flag football plays and your teammates have access to it.

2. Wrist bands - having your flag football playbook "portable" is also important. Determine what your top plays are and transfer them to your wristband. Not only will this help the hurry up offense, but it also reduces time in the huddle. Also, there is nothing like trying to verbally communicate while panting from the last play. Your plays should be numbered so you can refer to them quickly without confusion. If you have 8 plays, you really have 16, because you can "flip", where everyone one runs the same route, but to the opposite side of the field.

3. Pressure on the opposing QB- Even the best QBs play poorly when they get too much pressure. Get in there and get in there fast! Most interceptions are created by excessive defensive pressure. So often, the worst players are used to rush the QB. Send your best, most athletic players after that QB! Speed and agility are needed to really shake up that QB. Keeping "fresh legs" for rushers is also important, so plan on rotating rushers every few plays.

4. Pitch the ball! - In most flag football leagues, a fumble is a dead ball. Because of this, pitching the ball is a MUST. The risk-reward continuum is outstanding (in your favor) and your team should take full advantage of this. Flipping the ball is a team concept and everyone should be thinking "flip". Put it this way... the chance of you turning a short yardage play into a touch down far outweighs the possibility of a turn over.

5. Reliable teammates - First of all, make sure your teammates are committed to playing every week. If they plan to miss, they should let you know in advance. Make sure your phone and email list is up to date and make sure your team is deep enough to cover your back on light attendance weeks.

6. Cool headed teammates - Everyone has that loose cannon on their team. Decide first if they are worth keeping and if so make sure you know how to manage them. It never fails that the loose cannon comes unglued at the most in-opportune time.

7. Turnovers - Avoiding turnovers seems like a common sense tip, but it's perhaps the most critical component of the game. When the game begins, you can assume that your team will get 6 drives (possessions) and your opponent will get 6 drives. If you throw 2 intercepts, now they get 8 drives and you get 4. All things held equal, this is a tremendous obstacle to over come. Since almost all turnovers are passes, just play smart. On those low percentage or broken pass plays, don't force that throw, but throw it away!

8. Time of possession - Is time of possession really that important in flag football? Well, it depends! If you are the underdog, then you want to reduce the total number of drives per team. If this is the case, burn that clock where you can.

9. Defensive audibles - Based on what the opposing offense comes to the line with, you need to be able to change your defensive plays on the fly. Take the time to create defensive plays and audibles just like you do your offensive plays and audibles.

10. Pulling flags- Every missed flag means 7 more yards for the other team. Make sure you practice grabbing flags. This is often overlooked, but very important in stopping your opponent's offense.

Football Handicapping Tips

Handicapping in football is the art of adjustment and being dynamic about it. Football handicapping is not for the faint of heart and yet people can get really stubborn about one particular strategy that seems to work. However, time and again we have seen successful handicapping systems laying a complete waste. So what makes them tick when they do and why do they stop working when they do?

Handicapping strategies are systems that are bound to fail from their very inception. No, it is not a conspiracy against bettors by the bookies. It is simple logic and common sense once you think about it.

Football is as organic a game as ever and just like everything organic - it changes. Star players retire, coaches change, team strategies change - basically everything changes. So in a game that changes so often, how can you expect a fixed system to last you long? Thus these systems may be great when they start but do know that they will fail eventually.

The best thing that you can do to save your money is tweak the system to suit the present. The past is past and it will never come back. If it did, betting wouldn't exist. So all you can do is learn from your mistakes and move on.

Successful handicapping comes from understanding and analyzing information. You have to constantly look through all the data that you can manage to find. There is no substitute for hardcore research. No analyst can tell you what you can dig up yourself.

You should have all the stats at your fingertips before you start handicapping. So you have to know about all the scores, averages, histories, player changes, injuries, trends, weather conditions, everything. Unless you can dedicate yourself to this research, you can never expect to make any money at all.

If you are in it for the fun, you have pay dearly for having your fun.

Getting good numbers is crucial for successful handicapping but getting them can be tough. With so many sportsbooks around, you have to know which ones are the trustworthy ones. Keep yourself updated at all times because even a 1/2 difference can cost you the win.

Do not look at the records of the teams. Instead look at how they have done against the spreads. Only a fool thinks that the best performing team has been the best money making team. Sometimes, it is the team that does miserably that makes bettors the largest sums of money. So when you tally records, tally them against the spreads that were offered at the time.

Do not get emotional about betting. Betting is all about numbers and probabilities. There is no place for emotions here. If your favorite team is very unlikely to win, losing your money while they lose the game will not make you feel any better.

Also, be quick to recover from a loss and learn from every mistake. Learn from every correct decision you take.

Wake Forest Demon Deacons - Getting to Know the Teams For the Tobacco Road

Tobacco road is not just a road made of tobacco plants. Aside from having a name that could equate to a haven for smokers, the name itself implies the rivalry. This is the rivalry of the four universities within the area. These rivalries are from the Big Four universities that is one of the main attractions in College Games.

It is no doubt that these schools result into having intense rivalries with each other due to their locations. If you want to get to know these four universities, check it out below:

1. North Carolina State University- This school is located Raleigh, North Carolina. Their team is known as the Wolfpacks. Their biggest rivalry among the four universities is the
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This is evident on their lyrics and how they tweak their words, in order to phsyc out the Tar Heels. Their team won four National Championships but most of their victories are accounted for the ACC Championships. Their fight song is known as the Red and White song.

2. Wake Forest University- This is one of the two private school members of the Big Four. The school is located in Winston-Salem. According to wfu.edu, this is a school run by the Baptists and tobacco growers. Nevertheless, what is so surprising about this school is the name of their athletics group. Their varsity team is called Wake Forest Demon Decons. This team grabbed eight national titles from different sports. The most recent wins are from their hockey team for women.

3. Duke University- This is the second private school that is a member of the Tobacco Road group. Located in Durham, North Carolina, this school was founded by a tobacco tycoon, which the school was named after in their honor. The name of their varsity team is the Duke University Blue Devils. Their best teams are their women golf team and their basketball team for men. Their biggest rival is the Tar Heels. They have produced many players that qualify for the Olympics since 1956.

4. University of South Carolina- It is located in Tar Hills, North Carolina. This is the last member of the Big Four Universities. It is one of the oldest schools in United States since it was established in 1795. The name of their varsity team is North Carolina Tar Heels. They have an excellent record in NCAA as they have 33 National titles. Their best team, grabbing the most titles for NCAA, is their soccer team for women. Their greatest rivalry is the Duke University.

It seems from all of the Tabacco Road universities, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons least attracts rivalries. And every school considers Tar Heels as their greatest opponents. There is no question about the performance of their team. No wonder the different schools are eager to beat them.

Nevertheless, all of these teams have provided great sports entertainment for the people of North Carolina. Tobacco Road Group is not only a haven for smokers but it is also the haven of the best players in the history of sports.

Freddie Brister is a huge fan of the ACC and the Wake Forest Demon Decons. His love for the game of football started with an older brother passing the pigskin around in the backyard with cousins and neighborhood friends. He later played in high school, college and coached high school football for 25 years, before retiring to write for Sports Fan Treasures. Check out his. Wake Forest Merchandise

The Oakland Raiders joined the National Football League in 1970 which was part of a NFL-AFL merger. Since the Raiders joined the National Football League the team won three super bowls and twelve division titles as well as appearing in two super bowls. The Oakland Raiders have had thirteen enshrinees in the Football Hall of Fame.

The Raiders first three seasons they struggled on and off the field. Al Davis became the head coach and general manager in 1963. The Raiders became winners as soon as Al David was brought over to the team. During the time Al Davis was with the Raiders from 1963 to 2002 they only had seven losing seasons. Al Davis also started the team slogans like Commitment to Excellence, Pride and Poise as well as Just Win Baby in which Al Davis got registered trademarks for. Four Remarkable Ways To Change Players In Fantasy Football

Fantasy Football is a game that belongs to a billion-dollar industry called fantasy sports wherein players, aptly called team owners, can acquire or draft an entire team of real-life professional football players. Arranged into leagues that mimic real ones, Fantasy Football participants gain score points through statistical capabilities or performances of the real world players which are included in the fantasy rosters of the respective owners.

In essence, the way to win in Fantasy Football is to always have high quality players. Since the performance of the real world players can change in between real world matches, you need to make regular updates or changes to the players in your fantasy roster to keep up with the fantasy games. This makes the changing of players a very important aspect of Fantasy Football.

The basic way for you to change the players in your roster is to add new players. To do this you just go the players' page in your league's website, there you will find the list of players to choose from. Commonly, for each player that you acquire, a corresponding member of your team should be dropped too.

All in all, after acquiring a new player and dropping an old one, your roster will be changed. But there are other ways of changing players in Football Fantasy and here they are.

Activating Bench Players To Active Status

One of the most overlooked ways of changing players in an existing lineup is by simply changing the status of a certain player from bench to active or vice versa. You can access this function online by simply going to your team's webpage. There you will find a menu that permits you to change the status of each of the players on your roster. Always remember to save the changes before you exit the page.

Trading Players

This can be the easiest way of changing the player composition of a Fantasy Football team. For one, this method of changing players on a team is allowed even if the season has already started. And more importantly, this method has very few restrictions; so the process and the agreements that lead to the trading of players is entirely left to the preferences of the two teams that decide to trade.

However, there is one important regulation that all the teams that decide to trade their players should keep in mind and this is ensuring that the trades are not done disproportionately. This happens when one team decides to trade off players that have high quality standings with another team that has had a losing streak. The goal of this tradeoff is obviously to help the lackluster team win more games to the detriment of other participants in Fantasy Football. To address this kind of trading, which is considered cheating; most Fantasy Football leagues disallow trading after about two-thirds of the season has been played.

Allocating For Free Agents

Free agents are players who aren't on the roster of any Fantasy Football team. If your league provides for a waiver system, then a free agent is a player who has been cleared or released from such waiver. Utilizing these free agents is another way to change the players on your roster.

You can acquire free agents on a first-come-first-served basis. You can also opt to bid for any free agent; in this case, all the teams that want to acquire a particular free agent should bid on this free agent and the highest bidder wins the right to acquire the player. There is also a scenario where the worst performing teams during the last season get the first rights to choose any player who is a free agent.

Draft Auction

Fantasy Football gives team owners a certain amount of fantasy cash so that they can bid on professional football players to fill in the spots on their respective rosters. In this system, Fantasy Football team owners take turns in bidding for players.

No matter what method you decide to use in changing your players, always remember that you need to beat a deadline which is about fifteen minutes before the start of the first game during the week; after which, your changes will not be valid. After this deadline, your player lineup is locked for the entire week of matches.

College Football - Forward Passes and Recruiting

In college sports, players in various sports are tested and trained to be included in college teams. Among these sports is college football. College football is one of the most popular sports in the USA. The goal is to score points by getting the ball into the opposing team's court, or end zone. Over the years, players and coaches have developed various plays for getting the ball to the goal. One of these is known as the forward pass.

E. B. Cochems was a coach at Saint Louis University from 1906 through 1908. He was the first to utilize a proper, legal forward pass in his plays. The forward pass became a central feature of Cochems' offensive scheme, ground-breaking in its time. In that first season his team completed a perfect 11-0 season wherein they outscored their opponents 407-11. The highlight of this football campaign was St. Louis' 31-0 triumph over Iowa. It is reported that there were eight passes which were completed in ten attempts for a total of four touchdowns in the Iowa game. The average flight distance of the passes made was twenty yards, and these plays demonstrated the crucial impact that the forward pass was having on the game.

However, because the dominating teams and the major sports media at the time were all centered and focused on the East. And since St. Louis was geographically distant from both, Cochems' revolutionary offensive strategy was not picked up by any of the major teams. Pass-oriented plays would not be recognized by the Eastern football clubs until the next decade. Other teams in the Midwest did pick it up, however. The quarterback for the College of Emporia in Kansas, Arthur Schabinger, was reported to utilize the forward pass in matches during his stint in 1910.

American professional football, indeed, has its origins in college football. It remains extremely popular today among students, alumni, and other fans of the sport. As there are many students who are gifted in football eagerly pursuing a college degree, college football recruiting remains a significant activity for students and colleges alike. Some exceptional students have enough talent to attract the attention of scouts and coaches while still in high school. Others, however, need to make extra effort in order to get ahead in the process.
